Bringing the Storm to the Norm – Reinventing the Wheel is FUN

On the concept of “Reinventing the Wheel”

Nowadays, one of the most common phrases which has been engulfed in a negative connotion is this idea of “Reinventing the Wheel”. Especially in the context of design/innovation where a large group of individuals are in agreement (without even question) that:

  1. It is an utter waste of time
  2. A process from which no lessons can be derived
  3. Somewhat an activity that a philistine would be attune to

Question is, are any of the above impressions TRUE? I’d say not. Why? Let’s bring the storm to the norm and consider the following example…

Consider in life (we can all relate to this, and if you can’t you probably wouldn’t be reading this) that a lot of our seniors (parents, mentors and the such) love to pave the way to make our lives easier by suggesting what we should or should not do so we can:

  1. Avoid having to learn the hard way
  2. Don’t have to fall where they fell
  3. That if we play it as they suggest, we’ll have a superior life

Having said that, as much as we KNOW it, we never truly UNDERSTAND it until we experience it for ourselves (sorta like Love). So the idea that Reinventing the Wheel is More >

The World – A Note on Rationality

Almost every decision we make (you and I) is one of which we are convinced is of the right. Face it, the most persuasive voice to you is that of your own. Within your own world of thought, your decisions and actions are near 100% justified regardless of having to depthly consider the reasoning and feelings behind the people we impact. We consider, our own thinking someone rational…we rational-”lies” and conclude before even having set up a proper experiment for which that decision can be profoundly hoisted. STOP! You’re probably even doing it now as you agree or critique this post. AND if I were to tell you “You’re wrong” (which I do not believe you are), then the self-justifications and arguments supporting your judgement becomes even stronger…. where am I going?

Well truth is, if everyone is doing this with their internal dialogue, then our conversations will say one thing whilst our actions represent another. We never really know what goes on behind the scenes and can only guess and chase a tail-located answer. We end up on a spiralling mission to nowhere…water being sucked down a drain.

I believe, there is no better answer than what your intuition gives you. More >

You want the truth?..You want the TRUTH?…Well!

There ain’t no truth my friend…well there is, but its not easy to pan for.

It is the classifc tale of chinese whispers. Someone told someone who told someone something and by the time if came around the message was totally something else. From, “I bought an ice cream” to “its cold and icy outside”.

What am I getting at? Well, if you look at our history going back an infinite number of years it is very difficult to discern exactly what was said and how accurately it was recorded. Is accuracy important? Good question. My point of view is that it possibly isn’t. For example, if you look around you now, at the norms, the contradictions, and the cause and effect of events surrounding us (witnessed by yourself) you can almost certainly discern an impression of what may have happened in the past.

Kinda esoteric? Let me paint an example.

I go to work and its Monday morning and someone will most definitely ask me “how was your weekend”…okay cool..so I tell em “was good”. But hey, on Tuesday I’ve never had anyone ask me “how was your Monday”? Wanna guess why? The norm of society these days almost certainly assumes that only weekends More >

Wassily Kandinsky – The Sound of the Brush

Who is he? I’d say he’d be like a Jimi Hendrix but on paper. The guy had a dose of synthesesia whereby colors were associated with sounds therefore referring to his paintings as musical compositions. Now, if we look at the picture below you can clearly understand why. Its totally, tasteful..in an inexpliccable manner. Love it!

More than anything, his paper regarding the Spirituality (yes its a buzz word nowadays but hey…its cool) on Art. He explores some pretty deep concepts in that and its definitely worth a read. BUT, its not for everyone. Its quite heavy and you certainly have to be in the mood for it….maybe this painting will help you =)…

Self-Centered? The Greatest Thing about EGO…

You’re most probably intelligent enough to know, that the word EGO is not the most enticing attribute for any individual to have. I mean, imagine having a conversation with someone who started every sentence with “I did this..”, “I achieved this…”, “I can do that…”, …Aye, aye aye…you know what I mean don’t you? Dead set speaking to a brick in the wall (a red one too).

But lets consider the other side of Ego. Everything is a duality on this planet afterall. The EGO exists as a mechanism for us to influence each other. For example:

  • Tickling someone’s ego can help you build rapport with them so they aren’t so defensive. Make the ego laugh, and watch it drop to the floor and squirm on the ground so you can get to the REAL person behind it=p.
  • A controlled ego lets you trigger a sense of self-esteem that you need to reach success in your daily activities.
  • Without the “I”, there is no “we”. The ego lets us compare the beauty of togetherness as opposed to self-centered-ness.

What else can you see it being useful for?
